Managing partner of Antika Law Firm, Member of the Judicial Reform Council, Doctor of Law Alexey Kot delivered a speech on the I Judicial Forum, organized by Ukrainian Bar Association. He identified 5 main acquisitions and gaps in judicial reform.

During the speech Alexey Kot stressed, that since the introduction of judicial reform which is still going on, not a lot of time has passed.. Nevertheless, we already have first acquisitions and gaps, which should be improved.

Among the achievements Alexey Kot identified renewal of judiciary members,  implementation advocates and scientists to judicial trade, an implementation of anti-corruption mechanisms. Managing partner of Antika Law Firm also sees positive changes in the introduction of effective mechanisms to ensure the same case law and change from principle of legality to the rule of law into the new procedural code.

According to Alexey Kot’s opinion judicial reform has such gaps: lack of efficiency of judicial filters at the cassation level, the institution of a constitutional complaintt, stalling Bar’s reform, imperfection of specific procedural rules. Partner of Antika Law Firm also highlighted the adequacy at explaining the purpose and detention reform of the institute of judicial power and also the relevant procedural law.

Despite some shortcomings, today we have a new Supreme Court, which is actively communicated with society via Facebook and took part in the relevant events. We’ve got a public competitive examination in the Appellate District Courts, in the High Court on intellectual property issues. There is professional representation in courts and soon, I hope, advocates will get new procedural rights and guarantees, and above all, society will evaluate judges and lawyers’ efforts in a new way’ summarized managing partner of Antika Law Firm,  Member of the Judicial Reform Council, Doctor of Law Alexey Kot.

I Judicial Forum is the first national-level event in the Ukrainian legal history, which was held by lawyers society to discuss topical issues of judiciary proceedings. The event had practical direction and aims to support advocates and its clients of adaptation to new procedural realities.
